Talk of Heaven

Tonight as I was putting Ben to bed he looked at me and said, " Mom I will be really sad if you die." I explained that no one knows when they will die but I hope I can live a long time to see him get big. He thought about this for a moment and said, "well, when you do die you'll wait in Heaven for me right?" He was being very serious so I was trying to give the best answer I could. We talked for a while and I told him I would wait for him in Heaven but I hoped he would live a long time.

We changed the subject to something else then right before I left he said, " we should have a meeting place when we get there because I want to see you when I get there." Of course I'm almost in tears now because he's being so sweet. I know he's a little small to understand the whole concept of heaven and he really wanted to have a meeting place so I told him maybe there would be a big pond and I'll wait there.

This seemed to make him happy so he closed his eyes and told me goodnight.
He amazes everyday with his conversations. I know he will do great things one day. He is truly a blessing.

Outside time

Benjamin has been spending a lot of time inside with me lately watching movies and as many kids his age has become quite good with the kindle and iPad.
Today after school he came in grabbed the iPad and started playing one of his favorite games. He then turned on the tv so he could not only play a game but watch his favorite cartoon as well.
Michael came in shortly after and asked Ben if he wanted to play golf. Ben said, " No dad I just want to sit in the couch and play my game." He then started to whine when Michael told him he needed to have some outside time.
At this we decided to turn off all electronics. The kindle and iPad got put up as well as tv's turned off.
Michael got the golf clubs out and turned on the sprinklers. At first Ben was not excited about
the forced sunshine but soon the boy that loves outdoors finally returned. They currently are having sprinkler wars.
I think we will make this a daily routine in the Long household. Yes he might not be as electronically savvy as some of his classmates but there is always time for that.

Taking charge

This morning Ben and I are taking it easy watching cartoons. Since I have a few weeks off due to my foot surgery I called my dermatologist and tried to get an appointment for next week. Of course they can't get me in till July 30th so I was a little frustrated after talking to them.
Ben said , "mom next time let me talk to them because they need to see you sooner than later because you hurt your foot and shouldn't have to wait. So call them back and let me talk them. I'll explain the situation. Ok? What's their call number? I'll call them."
He is such a sweet boy. I was going to let Michael take him to school today but I figure this is a great time to hang out with him. Plus he has been quite helpful. He can get me ice water, knows how to get his snacks, and also understands that I need to rest so he really doesn't ask a lot from me.
I'm looking forward to a day of board games and movies.

Helping hand

I have recently had surgery to a severed tendon in my left foot. Benjamin has been extra helpful since I'm suppose to be mainly sitting. Tonight my mom was really sleepy and I couldn't sleep so I asked Ben if he wanted to watch cartoons in my bed. He was super excited about staying up late so he happily agreed.
After about ten minutes he looked at me and said, "Momma lets get a snack. I need you to work the microwave but I'll get the drinks and the pizza."
He ran and got my crutches and with a big smile said," I'll help you. We will be really careful. I won't let you fall down the stairs." Of course I said yes because he was being so nice. It took us a little while to get to the kitchen but once we did he got busy opened the fridge and got a coke and two slices of pizza. He then asked me if I would please heat up the pizza. While I was heating up the pizza he got a Walmart bag a put the coke and chips in the bag. When the pizza was done he said,"you can carry the bag and use your crutches while I carry the pizza. That way you won't have to spill anything."
I'm amazed how sweet and smart my barely four year old can be. Right now he's cuddled up next to me asking if I need anything. I am truly blessed.

Compassion

As many of you know Friday morning a knife fell on my foot from the sink. I wrapped it up thinking it was not bad and went to my workout and then work. This weekend I had to go to the Er because of the swelling and the fact that I could no longer move my big toe in the up position. I was told that I most likely severed my tendon and they put me in a soft cast with crutches. The Dr instructed me to make a appointment Monday for a orthopedic surgeon.
I had a really rough night last night and after the third Dr office informed me they could not see me this week I was in tears. This is the moment Ben came down the stairs. He sat next to me, held my hand and said ,"momma why are you crying maybe I can fix it." I tried to dry up my tears and told him that I was trying to get a Dr to see me today. He thought about that for a minute and said, "I know momma, we can go to the dr that gives me shots sometime. She'll make your foot better and they have suckers. Or we can call the ambulance and they will take you somewhere."
His sweetness made my day. I'm truly blessed beyond measure. At that moment I just let the situation go and gave it to God. 5 minutes later my primary Dr called and told me they got me an appointment today:)

Words of wisdom

Ive been meaning to start this blog for months. My son Benjamin is really quite hilarious.

Today I was watching my sweet niece Harper. I had just placed her in her bouncy seat when Ben sat next to her and said," Baby Harper I have some rules for you.

1. Do not jump off of tall things. You could get hurt.
2. Do not poot in someone's face.
4. Do not grab someone by the neck. It could hurt them.
Do not say bad words.
5. Eat bananas because they help your legs not cramp.

I'm sure he will give here plenty more good tips as she gets older:)
